G R Anil, the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, has declared that the distribution of Onam packages will take place between August 23 and 26.
During this Onam, the food kits will solely be allocated to individuals possessing yellow ration cards, specifically the beneficiaries of the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY). These cardholders represent the most economically disadvantaged segment of the population.
On August 16, the state cabinet convened and made a determination to confine the provision of food assistance to individuals possessing yellow ration cards. Notably, an allocation of 20,000 Onam kits will also be extended to residents of orphanages and shelters for the underprivileged.

The distribution will encompass a sum of 6,07,691 kits. Within the state, there exist 5,87,69 beneficiaries of the Anthodaya Anna Yojana. To cover costs associated with the food kits, Supplyco will be granted an initial allocation of Rs 32 crore.

The distribution of Onam packages to residents of welfare facilities at the Poojappura Old Age Home (Pakalveedu) was inaugurated by Higher Education Minister R Bindu. Overseeing the event was Food and Civil Supplies Minister G R Anil.
Remarkably, the ‘Onachanthas’ (Onam market outlets) recorded an impressive sales figure of Rs 3 crore within a mere span of five days, precisely on August 19. Among these sales, Rs 2 crore constituted non-subsidized products, while the remaining Rs 1 crore comprised of subsidized items, as highlighted by Minister Anil.
