E-Sakshya App to Digitize Evidence Submission – Kerala Police and Courts to Adopt New System in New Year
Kerala is preparing for a major digital transformation in legal and investigation processes. From the beginning of the new year, E-Sakshya, a dedicated digital platform, will enable both the Police Department and the Judiciary to upload, store and submit case-related evidence digitally. The move aims to make evidence handling faster, safer, and more transparent across the state.
What Is E-Sakshya? A Unified Digital Evidence Platform
The E-Sakshya app acts as a common platform for:
- CCTV footage
- Photographs
- Official documents
- Witness statements
- Digital records required for investigation and trial
This platform ensures that evidence is stored securely and made accessible to both investigating officers and courts without delays or physical handling issues.
Why E-Sakshya Matters: Solving Evidence Management Problems
For decades, Kerala’s investigation and judicial system has faced challenges such as:
- Evidence misplacement
- Damage to physical proof
- Delays in transferring evidence
- Difficulty verifying authenticity
The E-Sakshya system eliminates these bottlenecks by introducing 100% digital evidence flow, making the entire process streamlined and legally reliable.
Pilot Implementation in Three Major Districts
Kerala will launch E-Sakshya initially in:
- Kozhikode
- Thrissur
- Thiruvananthapuram
Once the pilot phase is completed successfully, the government plans to expand the system to all 24 districts.
Key Benefits of Using E-Sakshya
1. Secure Evidence Storage
Digital uploads ensure evidence remains protected from tampering, damage, or loss.
2. Faster Case Processing
Instant evidence sharing between police and courts speeds up investigations and legal proceedings.
3. Unified Access for Courts and Police
Both institutions can review, verify, and approve evidence from a single digital platform.
4. Seamless Submission of Digital Evidence
Investigators can upload proof immediately, eliminating logistical delays.
Integration With the Police ‘Sakshi’ Portal
E-Sakshya is built to work in coordination with the existing Sakshi portal, used by Kerala Police for internal evidence management.
The new app extends these capabilities by bridging the gap between Police Stations and Courts, ensuring smooth, verifiable digital submission.
Training sessions will be provided to:
- Police officers
- Court administrative staff
- Evidence-handling personnel
Focus on New Cases First
The system will initially handle newly registered cases, making it easier to integrate digital workflows from the beginning of investigation to trial. Over time, more categories of cases may be brought under the digital umbrella.
A Major Step Toward Modern Evidence Governance in Kerala
The E-Sakshya initiative marks Kerala’s move toward a statewide digital evidence management system, setting a model for legal and policing efficiency in India.
With improved security, speed, and clarity in evidence handling, the platform is expected to strengthen trust in the judicial process while reducing procedural delays.
